Situated on the homonymous isthmus, Panama is located in Central America and borders Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the east, the Caribbean Sea (Atlantic Ocean) to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.

Although very small (78200 square kilometres, less than a fourth of the Italian one), its territory abounds in important environmental areas, such as the rain forest in the hinterland and the Cordillera de Talamanca, which both host an outstanding flora and fauna, as well as the enchanting Caribbean beaches lapped by the fresh ocean water.

Panama is situated in a strategic position on the homonymous Canal. Panama’s politics takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic. It has about 3 millions inhabitants, its capital city is Panama and the local currency is the balboa.

The climate is the typical one of the Caribbean, featuring a long rainy season during winter (which lasts up to 4 months) and hot and dry summers.
