Castelsardo is a Medieval village situated on the northern coast of Sardinia which overlooks the outstanding Gulf of the Asinara; it is surrounded by interesting archaeological sites such as the domus de janas (the “elephant rock”), the walls of monte Ossoni and the nuraghic complex of Paddaju.
The old town, situated on a rock overlooking the gulf, boasts narrow streets featuring stone pavings and ancient buildings and hosts the Bellavista Fortress, the seat of the Museum of the Mediterranean basketwork, the Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate, the St Mary church with its wooden crucifix of the Black Christ, the Doria palace, the seat of the Municipality, and the terraces of Manganella (whose access to the sea called "Mandracho del soccoro" boasts an outstanding view over the Gulf of the Asinara).
The town, with its 5.700 inhabitants, offers a wide range of services: a library, an amphitheatre, five-a-side pitches and basketball courts, as well as an equipped tourist harbour.
It is situated 50 km far from the Alghero airport and 30 km far from the freight port of Porto Torres.
